The MediaTek MT6589 chipset is another mobile phone chipset in competition with the Snapdragon chipset range.
This chipset incorporates a quad core ARM Cortex-A7 processor up to 1.3 Ghz. Much like other chipsets the processor has a 1,024 KB/Core L2 cache which makes for good multimedia mobile phones as the GPU on this chipset is a bit slower compared to other chipsets.
The graphics processing unit on the Mediatek MT6589 is a PowerVR SGX544. It also has the ability to manage all the broadband signals such as CDMA, GPRS, GSM, HSDPA, HSUPA as well as UMTS. The chipset also comes with Bluetooth 4.0, Display Support as well as an embedded GPS Module. The chipset can manage a 13 MP camera and can also run a high display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The chipset has been used in the following mobile phones:
Memory on the chipset is LPDDR SDRAM, LPDDR2 SDRAM running at 533 MHz. The maximum clock speed of the CPU would be 1300 MHz maximum. The GPU is also running at about 156 MHz being a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Note that there are three different versions of the chipset and these have been added below for comparison.
